Art is my passion and I have drawn, painted, sculpted and created art my entire life. I have taken classes in figure drawing, sculpture, graphic arts, Chinese brush painting, ceramics, color, watercolor, and pastels, and am always learning new ways of creating. I love helping people tap into their inner artists, express themselves visually, and learn techniques and skills for art-making and creating.
I believe that art should not be judged - there are no mistakes. When teaching, I emphasize learning the elements and principles of art, I use art through the ages and cultures to teach composition, emotional content, and help students to assess their own creations. It is exciting to watch my students create art and enjoy the art-making process.
I taught second grade for four years, was the Arts and Crafts Director at a summer camp, have taught Art to Grades K-5 at two local elementary schools, and was consultant to the middle school Art teacher. I have also taught 3-day art sessions on Greek pottery to middle school students at a local intermediate School.
I have a Post-Masters Certificate in Art Therapy and believe that art can also be used for healing, stress reduction, self-awareness, and spiritual development, and I have given classes, workshops and retreats in those areas using art.
We are all artists. We are all capable of using lines, shapes, and color to express our thoughts, feelings, and the world around us. The level of sophistication of that expression depends on our skill development and understanding of the elements (the abc's of art) and principles (the grammar of art or how the elements are put together) that are used in visual art.
