During my last years of teaching, I taught a 4/5 Intensive Intervention class where I instructed 5-8 children directly from RSP because my administration understood my gift of working with those with special needs. One mother even came in and thanked me for helping her son enjoy and do better in school. He was a special needs student whose IEP indicated that he be put in a regular education classroom for 1/4 of the day. Well, he, as well as six others with special needs, came to my class that year. They all had IEP's. Two had fetal alcohol syndrome, two were mildly retarded, and two of them had Asperges Disease.
