Hello, did you know that your child has everything needed within to have success in any subject area? Your child is much smarter than you think. He/she is much smarter than he/she thinks, too.

Through the use of individualized attention, appropriate leveled materials, hands-on activities, and an accepting and highly trained tutor, your child will go far above the expectations you have right now.

I tutor students by taking difficult subject matter, then I bring it down to a level they can understand. For 18 years, teaching preschool through high school has taught me to use this technique with every student, especially those that struggle.

I currently hold a Clear California Teaching Credential, a bachelor's degree in multiple studies, and a master's degree in education, so I am highly qualified to instruct your child with exceptional results. In addition, I have earned a BCLAD Credential which means: Bilingual Cross-Cultural Language Academic Development. I can tutor students in Spanish from middle school through college levels 1-4. It also permits me to be an excellent ESL/ESOL instructor. I have tutored children and adults in different languages learn to speak, read, and write in English.

I too, am certified in applied behavioral therapy used for autistic children. This certification allows me to work closely with autistic and behaviorally challenged students on the autism spectrum. My experience includes students in preschool through upper elementary.

My goal is to find that light of success that lies within each and every student. They all have it within, it just needs to be lit.

With warm regards,
Dana B.

Dana replied on 12/27/2013

I'd like to mention that I stopped seeing Asia because the drive was too far and for that time period I had decided not to tutor Spanish which is what Asia needed assistance in. I gave Asia a two week notice, by email, which I thought was sufficient time to find another tutor.

Her mother then left a demeaning, angry, unprofessional message on my home and cell phone which I chose not to respond to because from past experience I have learned not to involve myself with people that cannot control their anger. So I made the choice not to respond to the mother and let the two week notice stand.

"She is doing a fine job."

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

During my 16 years of teaching, I encountered at least two students in my class each year with ADD or ADHD. One year I had six of 20 students with the disorder.

My tolerance and patience level with these special students is extremely high as I learn the strategies that works for each of the individual's specific needs. Different modalities work for different students.

I have assisted and instructed students who that following year teachers put in SDC classes or sent to other schools for behavior problemed children. You could guess my surprise when I had experienced such success with these children.

Autism

I have been an Autistic Tutor through Butterfly Effects for the past year. I have had training and experience in Applied Behavioral Therapy, Child Abuse and Developmental Delays, Hipaa Training Course, Strategies of ABA, Data Collecting, Aggressive Behavior, Strategies for an Effective Session, Behavioral Implementer Course, Respite Provider Course, Behavior Instructor Basics Certification. For each of these courses there were exams with 10 - 15 exam questions that I passed on each one.

I teach most courses well and will be glad to assist your child achieve his/her academic goals!

Grammar

When teaching English, I concentrate on grammar including noun verb relationships, past and present tense verbs, past and present participles, contractions, idomatic expressions, possessive nouns, pronouns, adverbs, adjectives, and spelling. Other important domains that can be covered are reading, reading comprehension, fluency, writing, and the different types of writing.

Phonics

I love phonics! I enjoy sharing it more! Phonics is the secret in learning to read successfully. It gives children the hints and clues they need to fill in the gaps of what they may have missed in first grade. I taught first grade for four years and I know exactly what your child needs to be a successful reader!

Prealgebra

I review multiplication and division facts, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions. Factoring fractions to lowest terms. finding least common multiple and least common denominator, finding and putting points on an XY grid, finding values for x in addition, subtraction problems. I also instruct converting fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions.

Reading

Writing, Grammar, Study Skills, Literature Studies, Reading Comprehension, Spelling, Algebra Functions, Geometry, Multiplication/Division of Exponents, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, of Fractions, Ordinal Numbers, X/Y axis, Positive/Negative Integers, etc.

Spanish

I can Spanish levels 1-4, including grammar, reading, writing and study skills.

Special Needs

During my last years of teaching, I taught a 4/5 Intensive Intervention class where I instructed 5-8 children directly from RSP because my administration understood my gift of working with those with special needs. One mother even came in and thanked me for helping her son enjoy and do better in school. He was a special needs student whose IEP indicated that he be put in a regular education classroom for 1/4 of the day. Well, he, as well as six others with special needs, came to my class that year. They all had IEP's. Two had fetal alcohol syndrome, two were mildly retarded, and two of them had Asperges Disease.

I also have had one year of Autism training and I dealt with severe cases of severe Autistic children..

I know I can make a real difference in the lives of those with special needs. I feel I am highly qualified for this position.

Study Skills

In college, I was an AVID Tutor for High School Students. I learned multiple ways to be more successful in school just by changing a few habits at school and home. I'd love to share them with you!

Writing

I also instruct grammar skills, sentence structure, poetry, language skills, enunciation, reading comprehension.

We are very pleased with her techniques and have seen a huge improvement in our daughter's math confidence and ability to problem solve. Right away Dana recognized that our daughter is a kinetic learner and adapted her teaching techniques accordingly. Dana always shows up to each lesson with something new and ...
