Phonics

I have implemented phonics into reading and writing instruction for more than a decade as an aid to teach learners about the orthographic code of language and the relations of spelling patterns to sound patterns.

Special Needs

I taught students with mild-to-moderate disabilities in a Special Day Class environment for four years (8/99-6/04), and have been training, coaching, counseling, mentoring and advocating for adults with disabilities within their work environments for nearly four years (8/07-Present) both individually and in groups.

I absolutely enjoy serving populations with developmental disabilities and/or other challenges, and I believe that they benefit from my acceptance and experience.

ADD/ADHD

I have instructed and mentored these populations for more than ten years: 4 years as an SDC Teacher and 4 years as an Employment Training Specialist working with Adults with Disabilities.

Aspergers

I have 3.5 years of experience working and communicating with several individuals with this Syndrome and have an understanding of their compulsive verbalizations and general thought patterns.

Autism

I have 4 years of instructional experience and 1 year direct 1:1 experience with individuals with this disability. I comprehend and appreciate the need for structure and repetition while understanding this population's typical desire for isolation.
