Hello, my name is Christine. I have plenty of experience tutoring since I began in 2001. My tutoring experience includes tutoring individuals and groups at the K-12 and university levels. When I started tutoring, I was tutoring friends of mine in high school, and it was then that I knew I wanted to help others learn new things. Once I started college, it made sense to me to choose tutoring as a career. Tutoring for the university was a particularly notable experience because I tutored students with learning disabilities, and this helped me become more flexible in my tutoring strategies.
I am always ready and willing to learn new things. Coupled with the ability to learn things quickly, I can tutor anyone who needs help. I am very adaptable and patient. My priority is to make sure students understand the material, and it is important to me to make tutoring fun. I always make sure to ask students if they have any questions and if we are going at a good pace. I am flexible in my approach and I am happy as long as my students are happy and learning.
I have had plenty of experience with art, and in particular, with drawing. I took classes in high school, which introduced us to multiple media, as well as, teach us the various concepts and techniques. In college, I took some art classes, drawing in particular, and I like to draw in my free time.
I have also previously tutored art at the university I attended for various students. Drawing was a large component although my experience includes other areas.
Throughout my education, I have become very knowledgeable in logic, particularly because it was crucial to most of my core courses. Passing multiple logic courses was a requirement for my philosophy degree, and I excelled in all related classes. I enjoy the subject immensely and I have tutored it, as well as critical thinking and related math courses.
My family on my mom's side is from Russia, so learning Russian is very intuitive to me. I grew up learning some from my grandma, and as such, I took to studying it on my own as well. I love the language and I have a strong grasp on all aspects of the grammar as well as pronunciation.
I love sociology and I love tutoring it. I was one of the go-to tutors for any sociology-related subject at the university I attended, and I was always tutoring at least one student in the subject during any given quarter. My experience with tutoring sociology includes concepts, theories, and practical application.
I can and have tutored students who needed help with writing papers, understanding concepts and how they work in society, and more technical aspects such as research methodology and analysis. This covered a variety of coursework, ranging from the basic intro classes to technical research methods and writing and classes geared towards particular areas.
I have plenty of experience with speech and public communication. I have taken classes specifically geared towards speech, and many of my classes featured debates, which have greatly improved my speaking skills. These classes have featured both structured speeches and debates, as well as open debates, all of which helped with techniques, delivery, and the ability to think and respond quickly. Furthermore, I have extensive experience with helping others work their way through speech classes. I have both tutored numerous students with various aspects of speech and debate, ranging from picking topics to methods of delivery, and I have taught a summer course to a small group of students with an off-campus tutoring company where I held a summer job. This covered not only the techniques of speech writing, debating, and speaking in public, but the background and key points of the subject in general.
Working on study skills was a very important component while tutoring for the university. As tutors, we had regular trainings featuring study tips and techniques for all students, and particularly those with learning disabilities. This was particularly useful because these tips are applicable to everyone, and thus I can easily come up with a set of tips for any given student based on learning styles and what kind of help is needed.
My training at the university has also been supplemented by both trainings and a summer program I have taught for two off-campus tutoring sites. These trainings included study tips for not only subjects that require memorization of facts, but also writing-heavy subjects, where outlines and brainstorming are useful, and foreign languages. My own experience in classes has also been very useful in coming up with various techniques, and this personal experience lets me know exactly what is out there and how I can help.
My experience with swimming is extensive. It is by far my favorite sport and I have been involved with it since high school. In high school I was on the swim team, where I learned how to do each of the four competitive strokes, and of course, competed in various events, in all distances and all strokes. I also take classes at college, both for credit and non-credit. I have had the privilege of participating in a U.S. Master's training course, and I learned a variety of drills. It was definitely very intense. Since I am passionate about swimming, I also do it for fun at the gym, always working on my form and getting in shape. My various swimming courses have included water safety lessons and to complete everything, I am CPR certified.
