Hi Alison, This is a related rates problem much like the shadow problem you asked earlier. Here's an attempt at a text picture of the situation in this problem: _____________ tank height H = 10.0 m = 1000 cm, radius R = 3.5/2 = 1.75 m = 175 cm \ ...

Hi, I'm Byron, and I'm glad that I can get the chance to work with you. I have been tutoring professionally and privately since 2005. I have worked with many students from Ventura College, CSUCI, and local high schools over the years in many different subjects. My teaching experience includes work at the high school and college level, in Math and Physics. I am proficient in all levels of math through the community college level, and can help with any physics and high school chemistry classes.

My tutoring philosophy revolves around making sure that students are prepared for learning by understanding the fundamentals. Math and science are both subjects that require a solid understanding of the basic concepts before being able to truly learn more advanced material. Many students have issues with a subject because they didn't learn previous material properly.

I am a friendly tutor, but I will not just provide answers for students. I ask a lot of questions so that a student can figure out a solution, and build up their understanding by helping them develop the critical thinking skills needed to solve a problem.

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I am highly qualified in all high school mathematics subjects, and I can offer some test taking strategies on top of the mathematical content necessary to pass the test.

I have been tutoring this subject since 2005, and have taught this class several times with high marks on evaluations.

The content of most biostatistics classes is very similar to that of a standard mathematical statistics class, with some differences in notation. I have taught statistics at the college level and received high marks on evaluations.

I have been tutoring this subject since 2005, and have a strong educational background in higher math. I am qualified to tutor both AP AB/BC and college calculus.

I have a solid background in chemistry from my engineering education, and have been tutoring it since 2005.

I have a strong background in physics from my engineering education, and have taught physics at the high school and university level, as well as tutoring the subject (both with and without calculus) since 2005.

I have been tutoring pre-calculus since 2005, and have a strong background in all mathematics.

I have been tutoring this subject since 2005, and have a strong background in applied mathematics, which relies heavily on trigonometric concepts.

Hi Justis, This is an example of a recursive formula for sequences, where each term is defined relative to the previous term. a1 = 80 ak+1 = -1/2 ak If k=1, this tells you that a2 = -1/2 a1 a2 = -1/2 (80) = -40 For k=2,...

When you have a quadratic polynomial (ax2 + bx + c) that represents a parabola, you can find the x-coordinate of the vertex using the formula x=-b/(2a). In your case, a=-9, and b=5. Can you figure out the x-value now?
