Hi! Are you passionate about your subject?

Would you like to be?

I've just graduated from the nation's top arts school, California Institute of the Arts, equipped with the skills from this elite institution to teach what I'm passionate about: communication. Communication exists in the written and spoken word as well as the language of music. Few people remember that the most important skill in today's world is the ability to persuasively and authentically communicate. I'm here to help you find the passion that lies inside to be able to write, speak, read, play, and hear in a way that brings you the success you want.

Over the years I've spent at McGill University--Canada's top-ranked school--and the California Institute of the Arts--I've become an expert in my subjects and have developed the tools to help any subject become fascinating and enrich people's lives. Through helping my peers succeed, I developed the patience, the ability to motivate and make a strong work ethic seem fun. My experience tutoring in English, Writing and French, my competency and command of the languages of French and Music, and the wide range of abilities I've taught on the trumpet have allowed me to tailor each tutoring program to the student. Your love and ambition to learn and get better at your subject is my top priority.

If you're ready to move from where you are to where you want to be, give me the opportunity to show you what it feels like to hear your teacher say "You got an A!" Or to experience the delight of writing that perfect college essay. Let's meet where you're at, define where you want to be, and create a pathway to bridge the gap. A custom program that outlines exactly what steps we need to take to get you the results you desire! And, if for any reason you're not satisfied, my policy is a money-back guarantee.

Contact me today and let's get started!

Thanks and I sincerely look forward to helping you succeed,
Aaron K.

Here are my credentials: 12 years of playing the trumpet, studying with teachers who have been called masters and the best trumpet players on Earth. I've taken seven AP's, scored a perfect on the SAT Writing and 790 on French and a near perfect on the English. I have taken 4-00 and 5-00 level psychology courses (my first major) at Canada's top-ranked school, McGill. I've taught a trumpet studio from age 6-17, from all backgrounds and skill levels.

My Subjects:

FRENCH
I skipped two years of French in high school and studied in the Francophone city of Montreal; I've been called fluent and "having a beautiful accent" by native speakers. I have tutored in French before.

My tutoring style for French is dependent upon the student, but generally, I like to start with getting a natural rhythm for the language. This is an oft-missed element but is crucial to truly understanding the French language, culture, and various nuances and idioms that often come up. We move straight to developing vocabulary, solidifying grammar, constructing sentences both written and spoken, and finish the session with reading comprehension to tie things together.

ENGLISH and WRITING
One of my absolute favorites, at sixteen I began taking college level coursework in English, specifically emphasizing argumentative and rhetorical writing. I've been an avid reader since the age of three and it's my goal to impart solid writing skills that will last you a lifetime. How? By encouraging you to read. It's a simple formula, and it's one I've spent a long time perfecting, but truly: the more you read what you love, the more you'll write what you love with grace and ease.

Simplicity is key.

PSYCHOLOGY
At the age of thirteen I decided I wanted to know how and why the mind worked the way it did. Since them I've devoted much of my leisure time, and two full years of academic time to researching the human mind and behavior and figuring out how to succinctly explain some of its most intricate workings. Psychology is rapidly evolving, and to catch up, you're going to need someone who's familiar with cutting edge research and the latest theories and developments. Enter yours truly. There are certain basic facts you need to know, and I will help you master those facts. But if you want to move pass the test, I can help there as well.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ear Training

I have been through five levels of aural skills and ear training at McGill University and California Institute of the Arts. My most advanced ear training included quarter tones, atonal clusters, dictation of Schoenberg, Berg, Webern, and Boulez.
McGill's ear training and theory program is one of the most difficult in North America.

English

I have received a 5 on AP English Language and a 5 on AP English. I have tutored in English before.

French

I received 790 on the French SAT II. I skipped two full years of French in high school. I lived and studied in the Francophone city of Montreal. I have been called fluent and "a wonderful accent" by native French-speaking friends. I enjoy French literature.

SAT Writing

Perfect score on the SAT Writing.

Trumpet

I have studied trumpet with a man who has been called "The Greatest Trumpet Player on Earth" by the Times in the UK. I have spent twelve years devoted to my craft, and love nothing more than to teach the various methods I've learned to all skill levels. I have performed in national competitions, given solo recitals attended by famous composers in the LA area, done summer programs specializing in trumpet music, and have taught a studio in the Bay Area of ages 6-17, running the gamut of skill levels.

Trumpet is my passion and purpose in my life. To impart the knowledge I've generously received from my teachers would be a gift.

Writing

I received a perfect score on the SAT Writing test. I have taken advanced coursework through the Stanford University Education Program for Gifted Youth in college-level rhetoric and argumentation. I have also had coursework with published authors at CalArts.
