Approved subjects are in bold.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
During my fourteen year teaching career, I'd always teach students how to play chess during their recess time and during other parts of the day. It is a game that all students really like... it has a universal appeal to it. When I'd complete the lesson plans for the day as a substitute teacher, I would usually break out the chess boards if the class had them, and I'd start teaching chess and overseeing the games. Chess is a very important activity for young people to do, and I've always incorporated it into my teaching.
I have been a professional teacher at this grade level (K-6th) for fourteen years in the Los Angeles, Oakland, and San Francisco Unified School Districts. I have vast experience in all types of settings teaching elementary students, and I am extremely effective. I consistently get kids to work, and they like me very much as a tutor and a teacher. Parents have been continually amazed at how I get their kids to stay on task and perform well in their subjects.
