I have been a Resource Specialist at a high school for 28 years. I work with students who have learning challenges, teaching all subjects, teaching study skills and teaching algebra and CHSEE math classes. I use a variety of strategies to help students understand concepts. I have experience in diagnosing areas of weakness and can break down concepts so that students can understand all the parts of the whole.

I use multisensory techniques for teaching reading-phonics, comprehension and critical thinking.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have worked with learning disabled students with ADD and ADHD for 35 years. I am a resource specialist with an LH credential, also have a resource certificate, a multiple subject credential, and a certificate to teach asperger students.

I have been chair person of my Special Ed department, I have been coordinator of Title 1 for English and math after school tutoring programs. These are my qualifications.

Autism

I have completed a required course on working with autistic children.
I now have a certificate for working with autistic/asperger children.
That was part of my multiple subject and specialist credential.
I also have an English learner credential- CLAD.

Dyslexia

I have a mild handicapped learners credential and I am qualified to teach gen ed. students k-9.
I have taken classes to teach reading and have taught students reading through DISTAR, Corrective Reading, phonics, story boards and the whole writing method. I use kinesthetics to help students remember letters and their directionality as well as color-coding and tactile activities.

These are reasons I am qualified to work with Dyslexic students.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a multiple subject credential which means I can teach grades K-12. I have taught all grades 1st-6th, 7th-8th and 9th through 12th.
