Although I enjoyed the challenge of teaching math and physics in several private high schools, I always felt I was at my best in one on one situations, which in a classroom setting are all too brief. Therefore, once I retired from teaching in Los Angeles in 2005, I immediately kept myself busy as a private tutor and have felt a real fulfillment as a teacher, something that I believe inspires my student beyond the actual subject matter.
I am versatile and can tutor many different subjects. Besides a BS in physics, I also have a BA in Classics, both from the University of Texas at Austin. Thus I can also tutor in Latin, Ancient Greek, I am fairly fluent in German and can tutor all levels as well as basic levels of French. Recently I have even tutored in AP European History.
But since physics is my first love and the language of physics is mathematics, then my greatest experience tutoring is in math, all levels from 7th grade pre-algebra through AP Calculus and Statistics in 12th grade and even into differential equations and some advanced calculus at the college level.
At Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, I excelled in 3 semesters of calculus, followed by Differential Equations and a semester of Advanced Calculus.
I like to inspire in my students a real enthusiasm about the subject which is really key to mastering the ideas and cutting through the complexity of it all.
