I have been a classroom teacher for over twenty-five years working with students from 4th grade through college. I love everything about learning, but my passion is teaching kids how to be engaged learners who love school! Being a life coach in addition to an experienced teacher allows me to incorporate many coaching techniques into my tutoring sessions. Thus I am able to help kids work on establishing a positive attitude, organizational skills, social and emotional intelligence as well as academics.
What I love about tutoring is the opportunity to work with kids one-on-one, connect with them, and show them how bright and talented they already are. Together we create a strategy that will turn their challenges around and help them soar.

My five years of teaching in a 5th grade classroom qualifies me to teach elementary school. I was a core teach in charge of all curricula and lessons in math, English, social studies, reading, and writing.
I have worked with students in both elementary and middle school on test prep for the ISEE exam. I have tutored them through both the verbal and math sections of the exam and all the students I tutored did well enough on the exam to be admitted to top independent schools.
Study skills are essential to student success. I teach active reading, note taking skills, summarizing, outlining, how to review material, how to preview material, and how to determine main idea and supporting detail. I also teach students how to use their textbooks efficiently by reading headings, subheadings, using the index, glossary, and focus questions. I work with students on organizational skills as well including organizing and prioritizing homework, organizing notebooks and folders, using a calendar to plan effectively, and time management.
