My name is Andrew, and I am a guitarist and film composer located in the Los Angeles area. I hold a Master's in Music for Scoring for Film, TV, and Video Games from Berklee College of Music, and a Bachelor of Music (Composition) degree from Columbia College Chicago. I have a passion for music, and enjoy relaying this passion to others. Throughout the years, I have developed a strong and wide ranged musical foundation that is a synthesis of rock, folk, jazz, classical, metal, and flamenco traditions. I have a strong foundation in music composition, theory and history and employ this knowledge to give context and depth to any teaching scenario. I am also a composer for visual media having done work for short films and video games.
I am always seeking out new approaches in teaching and focus on presenting musical concepts in a clear and intuitive fashion. I understand that each student will have their own way of learning and ultimately their own perception of what music is. From this, I will deduce what the musical goals of the students are and will tailor each of the lessons to suit the student's needs. Establishing short term and long term goals is also an important aspect of my lesson trajectory. Technique and ear training are typically the most important skills for beginning students to learn, but I also stress the importance of music theory and the ability to identify and talk about musical events in any context. Ultimately, I want to spark a curiosity for music within my students!
