I am an experienced student-centered high school teacher and college math instructor who is interested in tutoring motivated math students in the North Bay Area. I am enthusiastic, patient, and dedicated math educator. When working, I take into consideration the student’s level of knowledge and adapt my teaching and tutoring methods to his/her needs, weaknesses and strengths, so that improvements are achieved in a short period of time.
My goal is to increase your ability to understand mathematics, learn effectively, and be able to apply correctly the math concepts in variety of application problems. While I am a very patient tutor, I am also goal oriented so that the students make visible measured progress under my tutorship. Having taught almost every subject in high school math from Algebra 1 to Calculus, I've become skilled at recognizing students' needs, and designing instruction to meet those individual needs. First, I start with filling the gaps in background knowledge because this generates huge benefits for the students.
I am patient and able to explain the same concepts or theorems in a variety of ways. As a rule, I encourage students to apply both inductive and deductive reasoning when using mathematics to model real life situations. Teaching the material thoroughly, helping students understand why theorems are true, and improving students’ computational techniques are the keys to success. Re-discovering and truly understanding the math concepts help with retention of the math knowledge and contribute to effective test-taking techniques.
My educational background : BS in Mathematics from Sofia University, MS in Mathematics (GPA 3.98) from Cal Sate Hayward, Clear Professional Math Teaching Credential for California schools( k-12 and adults).
I have had the privilege of working as a teacher and math instructor with students as young as 8, as well as students in middle, high school, or college.
The last 6 years, I worked as an online math instructor at the highly rigorous Education Program for Gifted Youth at Stanford University. The classes I taught there : Honors Beginning Algebra, Honors PreCalculus with Trigonometry, AP Calculus B. In addition to that, I taught also math competition preparation classes for AMC8, AMC 10,and AMC12. A lot of my students got excellent scores and qualified for the AIME exam. Since all of the classes were taught online, I gained in-depth knowledge and experience of computer based instruction and distance learning teaching.
In the past, I worked as a math teacher at a high school for gifted and talented students in mathematics for more that 10 years. I helped thousands of students not only understand the concepts and material and be admitted to the top-tier universities in the world, but also see the beauty of mathematics.
Now I work as an adjunct College Professor of Mathematics at one of the local colleges.
Here are the classes , college or high school level, I have taught and/or tutored so far: Arithmetic, Pre- Algebra, Beginning Algebra ( Algebra 1), Intermediate Algebra (Algebra 2), Pre Calculus, Algebra for Calculus, Geometry,3-D Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus A, Calculus B, Math for Liberal Arts, Finite Mathematics.
I live in Vallejo and would like to tutor students who live close to my hometown, in a distance up to 15-20 miles. This school year, I am available to tutor students on weekdays or weekends, during after school hours through evenings by appointment. Home school students are welcome during school hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well.
