I work with students throughout the Bay Area to increase their ACT scores. I teach workshops on essay writing for the ACT and given critical feedback on how to improve their essays based on past ACT essay prompts. I demonstrate to students how to break down many of the reading passages, science sections, and math problems to help eliminate wrong answer choices and use their critical thinking skills to analyze questions. Many of my students have increased their scores by 5 - 10 points by employing my techniques, taking practice tests and working through problems in one-on-one situations and group settings.
My test prep students have seen their overall test scores and certain subject scores increase by 3 - 4+ points. A few of my students, after hard work and lots of practice, witnessed their scores increase by 5 points on the Writing section of the SAT. By working with me, students will learn to decipher and paraphrase main points of the Critical Reading section to look for the correct answer to questions on the ACT. They will also learn how to eliminate extreme answers and how to infer what the best answer choice is based on evidence within the passage.
I have been teaching students in factoring quadratic equations and square roots, FOIL techniques, understanding and graphing functions, as well as working with other polynomial equations.
I am an experienced algebra tutor. I've worked with students in high school and middle school in algebra I, algebra II, and geometry. I've also taught summer courses in prealgebra and algebraic concepts to students preparing for high school algebra and community college courses in algebra. I really enjoyed my algebra instructor, and I strive to have the same level of patience and understanding!
I have taught courses in Ancient Art History, Contemporary Art History and Modern Art History. These courses focused on Western and Eastern traditions, contemporay artists and practices, as well as the New York art scene and Modern Art.
My undergraduate major is in the biological sciences. I worked in an entomology lab for a couple years and took many course in biology, zoology and chemistry. I have tutored community college students and high school students in biology and chemistry.
As an English and Writing Instructor, I have worked with many students and adult learners to improve their writing and computer skills. I have tutored students in Microsoft Word and showed them how to create cover letters and resumes. I have edited and proofread many cover letters and resumes for successful colleagues and career professionals.
As a tutor and instructor, I have worked with many high school students preparing for college. Many of my students needed assistance writing, editing and tailoring their college essays to the schools to which they applied. Typically, this process seemed daunting and scary to them, so part of my responsibility was to ease their mind and help them through the process. Once students had a checklist of tasks to accomplish, they felt much better and able to address each task one at a time.
I have taught still-life drawing, contour drawing, mimetic drawing processes, value drawing, and 2-D drawing concepts at the college level. As a student, I took life-drawing, drawing I and II, and 2-D drawing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
I have been teaching elementary students K-6th in reading and writing for the past three years. Students learn how to identify: main idea, supporting details, cause/effect, setting, and character relationships. Students also learn how to summarize reading passages and draw conclusions based on what they have read.

I have taught oil painting and acrylic painting to students at the college level. Depending on the themes and projects, students worked realistically or abstractly to create paintings on canvas or fabric. As an artist myself, I use oil and acrylic paints.

I have helped students raise their scores by 275+ points on the math, verbal, and critical reading sections between their first practice tests and their actual test scores after receiving one-on-one SAT test prep tutoring. Many of my students were admitted to UC schools and a couple students were admitted to ivy league schools.

I am a Spanish speaker with experience tutoring high school and middle school English speaking students in Spanish I, II and III. I have translated orally from Spanish to English, and I have translated written texts from Spanish to English. With students, I tutor them in pronunciation, verb conjugations and tenses, and how to construct grammatically correct sentences in Spanish.
I teach high school and college-age students study skills and studying techniques. I show students how to manage their time and discover when they are most productive. I help students create a schedule to finish projects in a timely manner, discuss ways to work efficiently in class, and when to ask their teachers for help. I also teach them to anticipate their workload, prepare for exams, and begin papers or research early.
For the past four years, I have been teaching students English Composition at the college level. I have worked with undergraduates on: expository, argumentative, compare/contrast, analytical, and research-based essays, as well as descriptive personal essays. Recently, I have begun working with high school students on improving their essays for the ACT exam and their personal essays for college applications.
