Hi, my name is Noren and I graduated from the University of California at Davis (UCD), majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in music. I have finished the chemistry, physics and mathematics series at UCD as well as passed the CBEST. I also have been part of the MAST (Mathematics and Science Teaching) program at Davis.
Math and science are my favorite subjects and I always enjoy teaching them. In the MAST seminars I have had the privilege to help tutor a 3rd grade class, a 6th grade GATE (Gifted and Talented) class, and two 9th grade geometry classes. During the internship I was required to keep detailed logs of my tutoring experience as well as write and read case studies. I have tutored college, high school, middle school, and elementary students outside of MAST.
My teaching experiences have taught me how to adapt to the differences in teaching approaches from elementary to high school levels. Overall I feel that MAST has enhanced my tutoring capabilities and enriched my knowledge of teaching.
I believe that one of the common problems that students have with math and science subjects is that they do not understand what the problems are even asking them. In addition, I have found that most students attempt problems without actually understanding the concepts and just memorize equations or the steps in order to complete the homework. I make sure that my students avoid these problematic practices. I also make sure that a student has learned the concepts by encouraging them to explain what they have learned back to me. A solid foundation for these math and science subjects is essential for pursuit in higher education or even everyday life.
I am easygoing, soft-natured, and in general, a sweet individual. I am open, friendly and I love interacting with students. I tutor at the student’s pace and believe that communication is vital in a good tutor-student relationship. As my physics professor always says, “There are no stupid questions.” All students should feel comfortable enough to feel that they can ask their questions, and I will try my best to answer them well.
I hope that you will consider me when looking for a tutor. If you would like to know more I can email you my resume. I look forward to helping you master your subject. Thank you very much for your time.
