I am both a French and English native, passionate about languages and eager to share this passion with others. But the real reason I wish to tutor is because I ultimately aim to become a French teacher. I truly believe that everyone can be brilliant, and my goal is to help students succeed in becoming just that.
** Here is why I am competent in the subjects I propose to teach **
Native English speaker born in California and raised in France from age 5 to 22, I am perfectly fluent in both countries’ languages. Having done all my studies in France, I underwent a very strict education in terms of grammar, in French (French grammar was constantly taught from 1st to 11th grade) and in English (which was taught as a second language). More importantly, I have always been interested in perfecting my understanding of these languages, and how they relate to each other. And in both languages, I have maintained my fluency through regular conversations, and my written skills through extensive reading.
** What makes me a good tutor **
I am passionate about what I teach, and I’ve found that passion to be very catching. I am fun, I have a great sense of humor, and because of my age I can easily relate to students’ interests. Moreover my experience tutoring English as a second language in France, as well as my own experience learning foreign languages (most notably Japanese and German) has given me a real understanding of what people want and need while learning a second language.
And having tutored people of all ages (from age 8 to 57), I am very comfortable working with students of any level, with any kind of aspiration. Whether you are looking to start from the very beginning or wanting to have conversational classes entirely in French – or anything in between – I’d be more than happy to work with you.
I will do everything to make the subject understandable to students, according to their own terms, their own language, while developing their interest for the foreign language through initiation to the country’s culture. My commitment to my students’ success is very real. My goal is to be the best possible educator, starting with the students I tutor.
** What makes me different from other potential tutors **
I am not only proficient in French, but in English too, in which I also have a proven ability to tutor. I can give first-rate classes in French, while making the subject understandable from the perspective of an English native, and I have found that students I help in a foreign language tend to improve in their understanding of their own native one.
And, what may be most important of all, my desire to teach and help students succeed is very real, and probably stronger than most.
I am really looking forward to working with you! A bientôt!
