I love to help children find that they can learn, and that learning can be rewarding. I am sympathetic with children who have had learning challenges and through my experience and training I enjoy finding ways that suit the student to approach their work. I am patient and humorous and flexible in the tutoring session. I like to help the students have concrete results each session, which helps them be more successful at school. If a child is in homeschooling I honor that context.
My training was in Waldorf Education, world recognized for its developmentally based approach, where its curriculum supports the unfolding capacities of the child.
I have worked with children with special needs, as well as being a teacher of grades 1-7 in the Waldorf system.
In a tutoring session I like to use an artistic, imaginative and active approach to support the integration of the learning. I like to present suggestions that encourage the child to develop their own thinking. I ask questions to help draw out the child's native intelligence and awaken their unique way of learning. Sometimes movement activities and hands on projects will enhance the ability to "get it". I will use materials from various sources that match the child's needs. I love creating lesson plans that match the student.
