Dear Reader,
My background is in biology with an emphasis on neuroscience, animal behavior and ecology. I graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 2004 with my BA in Neuroscience and Behavior, and earned my MS in Biology this year.
I have taught biology lab at a local university for 4 semesters. The topics ranged from cellular biology, ecology, evolution to physiology and genetics. I taught undergraduates with wide ranging backgrounds and interests, and at times had to get creative to help students understand the subject matter. I am also certified in other academic subjects from math to English.
I prefer to teach using both visual and auditory methods. I believe that students learn and retain the knowledge better if there is more than one way of integrating the information. I try to use the student's own interests to help them understand the subject. I like to have the students critically think about the subject to make it more personal and applicable in their own lives. I also prefer to tutor one on one so the student gets my entire focus, but am willing to tutor more than one at a time if needed. Overall, I my main goal is to not only help the student learn the subject, but also learn HOW to study so they will do better in the long term.
