I have my B.S. Degree in Business from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. I have my single subject certificate in Business.
I took the CBEST test and passed it the first time before I became a teacher. I wanted to be a substitute and work part time while my children were small and it gave me the opportunity to see which grade level that I wanted to work in. The material that is on the test is similar to what has been taught in grades K-8 with some Pre-ALgebra and Algebra. I have been teaching middle school for the past 6 years and am currently teaching 2/3 grade combination class, teaching the common core standards but have been trained from 2-7 grade in common core.
I have my clear multiple subject teaching credential for grades K-8.
Math is a subject a lot of children do not like because they feel they are not good at it, but in reality they are because they use some form of math everyday, they just don't think about it much. Math can be fun and if children see its importance then I think they will have a better appreciation for it.
I played the flute in elementary school until junior high and was in a marching band in the San Francisco Bay area.
Grammar is not always easy especially with the way we communicate with teeing and email but it is important to have a basic knowledge in it for when the write essays for school but also most importantly when applying for scholarships, employment, writing letters, etc.

Students big question "Why do we need to learn this, we will never need it?" Well, algebra and geometry is math that many fields of employment use and I like to point that out and show them and have them do projects that require these math skills. Designing their dream house is an example of just one project I have students do.
I enjoy reading and I strive to make it a point in my classroom how important reading is. It helps students to learn vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and comprehension. Books can teach you many aspects of life and they can be just plain fun. I have read a variety of children's books and I enjoy them very much. It is also important that children be exposed to a wide range of reading materials, especially those that they will be exposed to as an adult.
I played flute in elementary school but was asked to switch to saxophone in middle school. I played tenor saxophone from middle school through high school. I marched in the Rose Parade, performed a half-time show for a San Francisco 49er football game, plus toured and played for several festivals in Switzerland my senior year of high school.
Spelling is very important but there are a lot of resources that students can use to spell such as spell check and online dictionaries. I still believe that students need to be able to spell so healthy spelling bee competitions can be fun.
There are a variety of study skills to aid students with there studies. I have attended several teacher development courses to be able to teach students various ways that will allow them to be successful. There is never just one way to understand an outcome. Students need to figure out which strategies work best for them but they need to be exposed to a variety of strategies to do this. I believe I will be able to share my knowledge of these strategies for the student to succeed.
Vocabulary is important both when writing, speaking, and reading. We all need to have a good command of the English language to be able to express ourselves to get our point of view across to our audiences. Children need to understand how important vocabulary is and when and how to use it properly.
Writing is a way that we use to express ourselves and it is extremely important throughout life and this goes hand and hand with reading, spelling, and vocabulary. It's important that students be exposed to all forms of writing.
