I have been a teacher for BUSD for over 20 years with my degree in Recreation Therapy and credentials in Multiple Subjects as well as Communication Handicapped. I also have an authorizations from the State of California to teach ELD and ASD children. My emphasis has been with the Deaf, in a full inclusion classroom using American Sign Language for instruction. However, in the last 5 years, I have also been working with children with ASD and other multiple needs. I have worked with a variety of children over the years, from high functioning children who need support to meet the expectations of the California State Standards to those who are several years below grade level who need instruction in pre-readiness skills, social skills, study skills, etc. I am responsible for the academic assessments for my students, implementing lessons, monitoring progress and writing IEPs. I have planned and implemented many opportunities for families to be able to work together on literacy and math. I have also taught family sign programs. I received the Honorary Service Award from BUSD for my commitment to the community supporting my students. I have also tutored several students at their homes, focusing on reading, language development, social skills and math. I would be pleased to work with your child and help them to develop the skills they are needing.
