Music Tutor: Music Theory, Ear Training, Songwriting

Hi! I'm Jacqueline, and I recently graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, with honors. I majored in Songwriting and minored in Music and Society. The songwriting curriculum at Berklee includes not only songwriting classes but also dabbles in some of the arranging, production, and business aspects of the music industry. All Berklee students are also trained in core music subjects (e.g. contemporary music theory, ear training) as well as in traditional music topics (e.g., traditional music theory, counterpoint, music history). We also receive training on one principal instrument: mine was voice.

Before attending Berklee, I graduated with a degree in Psychology and did a bit of teaching/tutoring. I worked as a vocal coach for a couple of small productions. I also taught business English and tutored essay writing.

I am passionate about music and about teaching/learning. I love to impart what knowledge I have, and at the same time, I believe that teaching is a two-way street: teachers also often learn from their students. I look forward to a productive and fun learning experience with you!

Music Theory

Music theory can range from the basics (e.g., pitches, note values, the staff, time and key signatures), to more intermediate concepts (e.g. chord building), to more advanced ideas (e.g. modulations).

Composition (Music)

I have a Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. During my time there, I took four semesters of traditional music theory and four semesters of jazz/contemporary music theory. I also took other classes, such as music notation and arranging, to supplement my knowledge in music theory.

Tutoring in composition can cover traditional music theory (counterpoint and four-part harmony) as well as contemporary/jazz music theory.

Ear Training

I have been singing/playing music for about 10 years now. I took a Solfeggio course in the Philippines. I graduated from Berklee College of Music, and while there, I underwent 4 semesters of Ear Training and 2 semesters of Sightsinging, receiving straight As across the board.
