Hi! My name is Madeline, and I am an undergrad student at Cal State Long Beach.
Since I was in middle school I've wanted to be a teacher, and some excellent teachers and professors along the way have solidified that life goal. I love tutoring and teaching people, and I love watching other students succeed. I've tutored elementary school children in basic reading and grammar skills, and I often run study groups for my German classes at Cal State Long Beach.
My college education began at El Camino College in Torrance. I studied there for three years before transferring to Cal State Long Beach, where I currently study. I spent four years as an English major before switching to a German major with a Linguistics minor, so my grasp on English as a language and how it works is better than that of the average English speaking student. As a German major, I have (naturally) had many courses dealing in German grammar and the structure of the language. My fellow students have expressed the ease with which they learn when I am explaining a concept to them that they previously did not understand.
In summer 2013, I attended a school in which only German was permitted to be spoken, and at the end I took the Goethe Institute placement test, obtaining certification at the B2 level.
While it is often difficult to make grammar fun, I do my best! I am familiar with many methods of language teaching, and will happily change up lesson plans to find what works best for whomever I am tutoring. I appreciate feedback so that I can make lessons more enjoyable and more useful for students, and most of all I want to see students passing their language courses with ease, instead of the usual dread come finals week. Learning grammar or another language is a wonderful thing, and I wish nothing more than to spread the love that I have for languages.
