I’ve been a seamstress for myself over the years - from having sewn basic dirndl skirts to dresses and a winter coat. I learned from my mother, from high school classes, and from taking classes at and working in a yardage shop for years. I still own my trusty sewing machine(s). In high school my intention was to become a clothing designer after placing second in a fashion contest - but I ended up in other areas of design.
While I don’t have “conventional” tutoring experience I have had many opportunities to teach others new skills. At my job I was selected to teach coworkers new skills, and I am currently teaching an 89-year-old woman how to use her iPad! I’ve taught sewing to friends who owned sewing machines but didn’t know how to sew. My teaching style and pace are dictated by the student - some people learn quickly and others need to repeat things we’re just learning.
