Hello, Students and Parents,
My name is Tim, and I have been teaching and tutoring for 12 years. I have studied mathematics up to calculus in school. I taught at Narbonne High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District for several years. I taught algebra and geometry. I also taught algebra and geometry for the Centinela Valley Union High School District in Lawndale, California. I have taught calculus as a substitute teacher. I have tutored both privately and for agencies. I privately tutored a student from Adams Middle School and Redondo Union High in pre-algebra and algebra. I also tutored an adult student who was reviewing for an exam in algebra. I have worked for A+ and Club Z tutoring agencies, tutoring mostly pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry. I have been tutoring for the Ford Learning Academy in geometry and pre-calculus for the past six years. I have also tutored chemistry there. I also am good at English grammar and social studies. I have always been interested in history. I have tutored occasionally in both subjects.
I have several teaching methods. First of all, I am patient. I was a student once and remember some of the difficulties students face. I think the best approach is to draw pictures and diagrams, especially with triangles. This has been especially helpful in the teaching of finding lowest common denominators to add unlike fractions. I use box diagrams to solve work and rate problems. I use the flip-and-multiply method to explain dividing fractions. I have a lot of experience tutoring in proofs of congruency of triangles. I am also skilled at teaching about logarithms and exponents, showing students how to set both sides of an equation to a common base to solve.
Sincerely,
Tim
