I am an accomplished public speaker (third place in the Regionals for the 2006 World Championship of Public Speaking) and corporate trainer (numerous companies) that has been able to parlay those skill sets into a number of training and one-on-one teaching scenarios for adults and children learning English, Public Speaking, Sales, Poker and other relevant skills.

As a Director at Berlitz Languages, Inc for over six years, and having had an ESL teaching business before, I am an accomplished ESL instructor as well, and am uniquely qualified to teach these subjects and many more! I am a graduate of the esteemed theatre program at the University of Southern California, and also the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. My background as co-founder of the American Shakespeare Company and performing in over 40 professional plays as been instrumental in my love of English and teaching.

Many of the teens and young adults I have taught ESL to, have gone on to college and medical school, and successful positions in their work life.

I also teach and play Poker extensively, using this skill often as a metaphor for life. I do not teach gambling tricks. I teach Poker game-theory effectively, how to read people well, and also how to win consistently. Understanding table image, basics of the game, and even advanced principles as pupils increase their levels. These skill sets will be helpful in every avenue of life from job interviewing, to dating, to a host of various real life scenarios. Reading people is a life skill. Most at the poker table, do not have it!

Vocabulary

As an ESL teacher I used to teach 20 words a day to my class. Often, in more advanced classes, I may not have known the words before. As a result I learned thousands of words beyond my traditional schooling and even avid reading had taught me. I encourage a tremendous vocabulary to my students, like the colors available to an artist.

Grammar

Understanding grammar, and using it appropriately is essential to a true education. My background in ESL as an instructor and director of Berlitz Languages, Inc will be helpful to your gaining a better grasp of this skill.

Reading

To appreciate reading, you must have a good understanding of context, vocabulary, reference, and imagination. In our class, we will develop these as skill sets, so that when you begin a textbook, manual, novel or article, you can get the most from it.

English

Whether you are learning English to for better reading understanding or simply wanting to sound more intelligent, or increase your language ability if English is not your first language, my tutoring will definitely increase your confidence using English in life and in business.

Study Skills

Time true study habits that can be taught and incorporated as part of students daily routine. These skill sets will serve well in all areas of life. My background as an ESL instructor for years and language school director are insightful on how you too can be more effective with understanding how you can study and retain information. As a corporate trainer I teach numerous courses on time and goal management. This skill set will raise your grades!

Theatre

I am a professional actor with over 40 professional stage plays to credit. I have taught acting, stage design, voice, and fencing. I have also been in over a dozen national on-camera commercials and have taught acting for the camera in classroom settings.

ESL/ESOL

I have been an ESL teacher for over 15 years. I have experience as a language school business owner and as Director of one of the oldest languages schools in the world, Berlitz Languages, Inc.

Poker

I teach and play Poker extensively. Winning in Poker is a lot more than luck. It is about the skill of reading people, understanding incentives, math and storytelling. When this all makes sense, you can win regularly in Poker. I'll teach you how.

Public Speaking

As an active Toastmaster for years, and a regular speaker at over 30 events a year, I can teach how to gain the confidence and speak effectively to teens and adults. This is a powerful skill-set that one can use in a multitude of circumstances. I have won over 25 speaking competitions in a number of areas from extemporaneous, humorous, motivational to debate contests.
