I would like this opportunity to introduce my self. I have been coaching youth basketball for 18+ years and have enjoyed every moment. My coaching has been in various leagues and age groups. My philosophy when coaching is to bring out the best in each player and teach them both the game and what it takes to succeed both on an off the court. The most rewarding part of coaching for myself is to teach each player the basics of the game - shooting - dribbling - etc. as well as teaching them what the game is truly about - when it was invented - the rules the game itself. This ensures that each athlete becomes a well rounded basketball player along with them having a respect for the game as well.
My goals when coaching an individual or team is to get them prepared to play at the High School level. From my current team, 7 out of 9 players made their Freshman teams - the remaining two players chose to pursue other interests but are still playing on my team outside of High School. This is not so much a reflection of myself as a coach but on the desire and determination that is instilled in each of my players to be the best they can be in anything they choose to do. Many young players feel that they need to score as many individual points as they can each game, therefore they lose the true concept of "Team" basketball. My training - be it one on one or in a team setting consists of first learning the basics as well as the importance of being a team leader, not through scoring only but in distributing the ball - helping a fellow teammate - and working hard each and every practice and game.
My training sessions are designed to be fun and informative at the same time and I feel that each player will learn to enjoy one of the greatest sports every invented.
Thank you for your time and I hope to see you on the court.
