As a high school English teacher, I know first hand the difficulties faced by students in today's classrooms. Teachers just don't have the time to cater to each student's needs. With budget cuts and increased classroom sizes, they do not have the resources to provide all the help and assistance their students require.
I am qualified to review class materials, help with homework assignments, edit essays, brainstorm and assist in the writing process, strengthen reading comprehension, and work to increase test scores. I can also partner with students in writing personal statements for college admissions applications.
I am certified to teach Advanced Placement courses and materials through the College Board, AP English and writing through Princeton Review, and Expository Reading and Writing Course (ERWC) material through the California State University System.
I take a special interest in the process of personal statement composition and have helped students get into top schools such as Harvard University, Cornell University, UCLA, and UC Berkeley. I also hold partnerships with organizations such as the Los Angeles Education Partnership (LAEP) and collaborate to develop programs and curriculum that increase college access, education, and awareness.
At the other end of the spectrum, I have experience teaching sheltered instruction using SDAIE techniques and limited-English instructional methodologies, and I have worked extensively in the creation and implementation of California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) and California Standards Test (CST) preparation workshops.
Additionally, I have been a resource for many adults who need to discuss literature topics/concepts, college essays, and any writing editing. I have an M.A. in 20th Century American Literature from California State University, Long Beach.
