I am highly skilled in the interpretation of test and performance data, and in the development of appropriate instruction and learning plan. I have a Doctorate in Language and Literacy.
As a favor to my friends and classmates, I started proofreading their class reports during my undergraduate years. This turned into a "side job" and I soon began proofreading masters theses. In the last ten years, I have also been called upon to proofread some doctoral dissertations.
I am a native Spanish speaker with excellent written and verbal skills in both English and Spanish. I have over 20 years' experience teaching Spanish to students of all ages, including adults. I have experience with translations in both informal and formal settings, and I have written and designed educational presentations for parents and community members in Spanish on Child Development, Language Acquisition, and Reading.
I have had 16 years of working with students on an individual basis or in small groups, in highly structured Intervention Programs in a Reading Lab setting. In working with these students, it was my responsibility to teach them early language and reading skills (math), and assist them in classroom performance. Before teaching them, I tested them, set up goals, and then provided the most appropriate level of instruction. I then continually monitored and evaluated their progress and needs. On many occasions, this work continued long after they were formally placed in Resource, and I worked alongside the Resource Specialist in a "team" situation. Aside from teaching skills, it has always been important to me to assist students integrate with other students and enjoy their educational experience. I have much experience working with students that present with ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, and other special needs. I will always evaluate your child's needs and discuss them with you before starting. Please feel free to contact me with questions. Thank you, Dr. M.
