I was brought up in Boston, MA. When I graduated highschool, I went to a Junior College called, Cazenovia College, In Cazenovia New York. I graduated with a an Associates Degree. After graduating, I decided to continue my education at Northeastern University, in Boston MA. There I majored in Elementary Education. I have my own business as a tutor. For six years I tutored in a learning center where I instructed three children after school hours. For me, tutoring children on a one to one basis is more rewarding. You can communicate with a child and he/she is not distracted as much. My personality is very friendly and positive. I am a very dependable,accountable and responsible. . My style of teaching is creative and innovative. I enjoying developing educational games and tend to be a visual person. A child is never uncomfortable with me, because I understand what they are going through. My love for children is obvious. Guided learning is important, so eventually they can do their work independently. I am very familiar with all subjects in elmentary education. Recently I received an Art Faciliator Certificate from an organization called Art For Creativity and Healing, located in Laguna Niguel. They are affiliated with Chapman University, located in Orange California. It is from there that I received my certificate.

Most of the children I worked with when I was a tutor at Sylvan Learning Center, had ADD and ADHD. I have also worked with various children on a one on one basis when I started my own tutoring business in 2004. Some children have been a year to two years.
In my training, I know that children with either ADD/ADHD need a quiet environment to work in and not have a lot of clutter around them. Making the tutoring session interesting helps the child become more focused. Small rewards are important.
I am certified as an Art Facilitator. I conduct workshops for children and adults, suffering from stress, illness or grief by offering the venue of painting on canvas. I also have taught children in after school programs the masterpieces of artists and how they can create their own interpetation of a particular picture.
I help out with homework and bring my own material for grades K-6th. Much of my tutoring experience has been with these grades. For the younger children I prepare educational games to make learning a little easier. I am very creative and innovative and real hands on.
I have experience with those students that have trouble with the English Language. At the beginning they need to learn the sound of consonants and then gradually progress to vowels. I supply simple books for my student to start reading.
I mainly work on grammar with grades K-4th. One of my lessons with the lst and 2nd graders is to write complete sentences under a picture. I usually get a picture of a favorite animal of theirs from Google Image. I cut out different pictures and make a book out of it. The student is to write a complete sentence under the picture, making sure he/she is using capital letters period..etc. They love doing this lesson!
In teaching phonics, students first discover consonants. In hearing two similar words with different final consonants, the student tells whether the initial sounds are the same or different. Examples: mat-sat; met-set. Going on to vowels, the student hears two similar words with different vowel sounds, tell whether the vowel is the same or different. An example would be pin-pan. Next is phonemic blending. When hearing separate phonemes blend them and say the complete word. Example /p/ /a/ /n/ Pan. Hearing a complete word, separate and pronounce individual sounds-example cat /c/ /a/ /t/ cat. Next is to recognize and make rhyming pairs. Examples tan/pan-big/pig bet/met. This explains how I teach phonics.
I use phonics mostly with the elementary age group, and teach those that have a challenging with decoding. I did tutor a student who was in kindergarten for two years. She couldn't even pronounce her consonants, by the end of 2nd grade she was reading full sentences. I do want to mention that I have tutored a child that was in middle school that hard time decoding her words. She didn't have a good basis of phonics when she was in first grade. I see that a lot in my tutoring experience. awareness. I have had training where children and even adults become aware of the mouth actions which produce speech sounds. This awareness becomes the means of verifying sounds within words and enables individuals to become self-correcting in reading. It eventually helps with decoding words.
I make reading exciting, and have children visualize what they are reading. It is important for children to have images of characters, setting and plot. Also, if they don't understand a word, they won't understand the paragraph they are reading. Therefore I have them look up the word in the dictionary.
I am very knowledgeable in working with children in Study Skills. I instruct my students in the proper way to study. My guidelines are written up in how to study depending what subject it is.
