Valedictorian St. Bonaventure High School

BS in Physics from USC

Master's in Physics from Pitt

Self educated in Writing and Philosophy

I have 4 years of experience teaching college classes and tutoring on all levels of math, science and writing.

I tutor all levels of physics and math. I can also help with papers in most any topic, and can help understand philosophy. (I even tutored one student in formal logic.)

My top priority is to give students a conceptual understanding of the material (as opposed to rote memorization). I do this by asking the student questions to gauge their understanding, then giving advice or practice problems to personally address the material they don't understand. I also like to encourage them by pointing out the things they do understand. I believe in being personally friendly but intellectually demanding.

Full price of lesson will be charged for lessons canceled less than 8 hours before.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

I have been using differential equations for the last 4 years of my Physics classes, and for 2 years in my research. Differential Equations forms the foundation of Quantum Mechanics, which is my primary area of study.

Linear Algebra

My specialty in Physics is Quantum Mechanics, which uses linear vector spaces, an advanced concept in Linear Algebra. Not only did I take a class in the basics of Linear Algebra as an undergrad, but I have been using the advanced concepts of linear vector spaces for the last three years in my Quantum Mechanics courses and research.

Didn't know what a tutor was until I was tutored by James — I never met a tutor who actually cared about the importance of understanding the concepts versus memorizing for tests. Great energy and very helpful. ...
