Noel’s qualifications in specific subjects below.
ACT Math
I have taken several advanced courses in mathematics at the college level, and I have tutored high school level math in the past as well. I am qualified to tutor the areas of math that appear on the ACT exam, including algebra and trigonometry. Finally, I have taken and scored highly on both the SAT and GRE, particularly the math sections.
Algebra 1
I earned a B.S. degree in chemistry from Harvey Mudd College in 1997, but my coursework also included several math courses, including multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations. While at Harvey Mudd, I tutored (as a volunteer) local high school students in subjects such as math and chemistry.
Algebra 2
I have experience in tutoring algebra II in recent years. I also tutored several local high school students during my college years at Harvey Mudd. I also took several advanced math courses including linear algebra and multivariable calculus.
ASVAB
I have an extensive educational background in math, having taken several advanced courses in college like multivariable calculus and linear algebra. In addition, I have a strong science background, having earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from Stanford. As arithmetic reasoning and science are key components of the ASVAB, my education makes me qualified to tutor these aspects of this test.
Calculus
I took AB calculus in high school and scored a 5 on the AP exam. In addition, I took several advanced math courses in college (such as multivariable calculus and differential equations) and earned As in those courses at Harvey Mudd. In addition, several of my college chemistry courses used calculus extensively.
Chemistry
As mentioned in my Organic Chemistry qualifications statement, I have a Ph.D. from Stanford University in the field of organic chemistry. This followed my obtaining a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Harvey Mudd College in 1997. Since completing my Ph.D. at Stanford in 2004, I have worked as a synthetic organic chemist in industry for eight years. I volunteered as a high school tutor during my undergraduate years, and I was a chemistry teaching assistant at Stanford (for 4 quarters) during my graduate work. These experiences, combined with my educational background, make me well qualified to tutor chemistry.
Elementary Math
I have tutored high school level math courses while I was in college and would be happy to tutor elementary math as well. In many respects, elementary math is the most important type of math to learn, as more advanced math builds upon it.
Geometry
During my undergraduate education at Harvey Mudd College, I took several advanced math courses, including linear algebra and multivariable calculus. I also tutored local high school students in math and science. Geometry is a key component to the SAT and GRE (used for admission to graduate school) exams, and I scored very high on both exams in the math section.
GRE
I took the General GRE and attained a high score in all three sections (verbal, analytical, and math) before I applied to graduate school. In addition, I have an extensive background in math, having taken several advanced courses in college. This would help me to tutor GRE math in particular. I also have tutored students recently in math subjects like geometry which are on this exam.
Organic Chemistry
I earned a Ph.D. from Stanford University in 2004 in the field of organic chemistry. While at Stanford, I was a teaching assistant for beginning and advanced organic chemistry. Since finishing my Ph.D., I worked in industry for eight years as a professional organic chemist. I have published multiple papers in peer-reviewed journals, which involve my expertise in this field.
Physical Science
The two main subjects which pertain to Physical science are chemistry and physics. I have a B.S. degree and Ph.D. degree in chemistry, and I took several advanced physics courses in college (and earned an A- in them). I have tutored students in chemistry through Wyzant in the past couple of months as well.
Prealgebra
I have tutored high school students in math and science during my undergraduate work at Harvey Mudd College. I also have tutored a couple of students more recently in Algebra II. Although I majored in Chemistry at Harvey Mudd, I took several advanced math courses, so my mathematics background is extensive.
Precalculus
During my undergraduate education at Harvey Mudd, I took several advanced math courses which built on the principles of precalculus. These included calculus, multivariable calculus, and differential equations. I earned high grades in these courses, and I have experience in tutoring high school students in math.
SAT Math
I scored over 750 out of 800 on the math portion of the SAT when I took that exam. I had a similar level of performance when I took the Graduate Record Exam in college (taken for admission into graduate school). Finally, though I majored in Chemistry at Harvey Mudd, I also took several advanced math courses and tutored local high school students in math and science.
Trigonometry
I have tutored high school students in various math subjects in the past. In addition, during my undergraduate years at Harvey Mudd, I took several advanced math classes, such as multivariable calculus and differential equations. Finally, several of my college courses required the use of trigonometry on a regular basis.
