There is so much pressure to succeed in the classroom, but, armed with a California credential in Special Education, Multiple Subjects, and French, I am able to work patiently and systematically with youngsters or adolescents with academic, emotional, or behavioral difficulties. I have taught General Ed and Special Ed in grades K-12, and focus on Content-Area Literacy so students are able to read and write with confidence in every subject—not just Language Arts. I care about the progress of all my pupils, and, to make lessons meaningful, I connect school material to what is important to each of them. If someone is frustrated or discouraged, I break the task into parts so that it makes sense, while identifying the student’s learning style. Above all, I offer a choice of assignments and make everyone aware of his or her abilities and potential.
