My Mission Statement
I am committed to a positive learning environment that advocates diversity, understanding, and acceptance. Where ignorance and misunderstanding exist, I see a challenging teaching opportunity. Only through learning are we able to better ourselves and only through understanding can we progress forward.
I come from a family of teachers and have recently received my California Teaching Credential from Cal State University San Marcos. My degree is in Teaching English with an emphasis in ESL and essay composition. My skills have been honed to reflect the same methods and techniques used by teachers in the classroom. Because I received my degree in Teaching English, many believe that I had an inherent ability to be amazing in English. This was not the case. I did not have the ability to speak or even write anything in the English language till fifth grade and continued to struggle throughout middle school even into high school. School was a challenge for me but challenges are no match for an individual who refuses to give up. My hard work allowed me to graduate high school and continue on to a four year university, but I have never forgotten all those long hours. Those hours have only fueled my desire to attain my Master's degree.
I have taken every opportunity available to be a participant in education. I have completed all of my teaching observation time and have tutored a variety of students from AP to at-risk youth. I enjoy the challenges of tutoring a variety of students. No student learns and retains material the same way. I do not have a specific tutoring method because I prefer adapting my style to fit the learning style of the student. “Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or the same way.” - George Evans
I sincerely appreciate the time you have taken to read about me and my background. Thank you again and I hope to hear from you soon.
