Composition (Music)

I have 2 years of private teaching experience in composition, teaching students ages 6-45 in various styles including classical, jazz, and rock. I am also an active composer for film and media. I have 6 years of performance experience, primarily in contemporary and traditional church music, and have studied piano for 12 years. I hold a Master of Music in Media Writing and Production and a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance and Composition.

Music Theory

I have 2 years of private teaching experience in music theory, teaching students ages 6-45 in various styles including classical, jazz, and rock. I have 6 years of performance experience, primarily in contemporary and traditional church music, and have studied piano for 12 years. I hold a Master of Music in Media Writing and Production and a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance and Composition.

Piano

I have 2 years of private teaching experience in piano, teaching students ages 6-45 in various styles including classical, jazz, and rock. I have 6 years of performance experience, primarily in contemporary and traditional church music, and have studied piano for 12 years. I hold a Master of Music in Media Writing and Production and a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance and Composition.

In my lessons, I cover technical exercises, which include scales, broken chords, and relaxed wrist exercises from the technique of the acclaimed Russian Piano School. After this is completed, I cover the current repertoire of the student, which includes work in practicing, memorizing, and expressively performing various styles and genres of music. This includes reading music notation and also playing music by ear or with the use of a simplified chord chart.

Voice (Music)

I have 2 years of private teaching experience in voice, teaching students ages 6-63 in various styles including classical, rock, and musical theater. I have 6 years of performance experience, primarily in contemporary and traditional church music. I have completed 5 years of private voice study, winning 1st and 2nd place awards from the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and am a featured soloist on 2 albums by the Messiah College Concert Choir. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance and Composition from Messiah College.

My lessons cover vocal technique, which includes such technical exercises as scales, vocalizations, breathing exercises, and diaphragm control exercises, as well as the basics of good posture and support. I then move on to the current repertoire (songs) of the student, which includes practicing, memorizing, and expressively performing various styles and genres of music. This may be done by reading music notation or by learning songs by ear. Also included are studies in diction and voice placement, which include vertical vs. horizontal vowels, voiced vs. unvoiced consonants, glottal attacks, and mouth shape. I also cover ear training concepts within the lesson.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
