I am a professional chemist with 20+ years of industrial experience, mostly in pharmaceuticals and biotech. Over the years, I have taught many junior chemists and technicians the chemistry that they needed to do their job better. In addition to chemistry, I taught them about safety and everything else that they needed to know in order to perform as fully functional members of my teams.
I bring a knowledge of real-world applications of the concepts that are taught, and I use that real-world knowledge to help me get my message across to students that I teach or tutor. During the past three years I have been teaching high school chemistry for home-school students, and by and large my students have learned the material and concepts that i have taught them. I have also taught hands-on science classes for younger students (K-8), and I am capable of explaining the more difficult concepts such that they are easily understood even by younger students. Mark is a great tutor. He really knows the subject and is patient and works diligently to help the student understand. My daughter hated Chemistry before we hired Mark. Now she truly understands the subject and is beginning to like the subject. He is very punctual and does not cancel on any lessons. We may be hiring him again to help our son.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching high school chemistry to home school students for three years, using a curriculum that I developed. The curriculum was designed to give students approx. 40% lab time, with thirty experiments taught at the rate of one experiment a week. In addition, I have 20+ years of industrial experience, and I use my background to give students real-world examples as I teach the concepts.
I am an amateur historian, and I am most interested in Medieval and Renaissance Europe. However, that being said, I am also interested in other time periods of European History, and I can teach/ tutor from my extensive reading in European History.
