I have a BA in History from CSULA and a Master of Divinity from Claremont School of theology. I taught middle and high school for 12 years before retiring, and have taught a variety of subjects and grades. My passion is nearly all elements of history and also religion, and I am a reverend as well. I have also engaged in living history though Renaissance fairs for 20 years.
For me, love of history is a passion, a living subject filled with adventure and mystery and drama, just waiting to be unlocked and made relevant to the present. In addition to teaching, I have also tutored, including working with the No Child Left Behind program, and making strong use of technology with computers and the internet for research, reading and writing.
Education is the gateway to success. Without a good command of reading and writing, language and grammar, we have little hope of excelling today. To read well opens up the whole world. Without history, to not know where we came from, we have little hope of knowing our place in the present, or how to plan for our future. That is my love and my passion.
My Bachelors is in history with a major passion for American History, from Colonial to Present, with strong emphasis on the Civil War and the geopolitical turmoil of the Second World War and post war period.
I hold a Master of Divinity from Claremont School of theology. In that capacity, I have also been preaching as an Ordinandi, and will be duly ordained on March 17th as a Reverend. If my diploma or transcripts are required, I can readily present them.
I have been a substitute teacher for LAUSD, San Marino, Las Virgines and Alhambra districts, teaching both elementary and secondary, as well as teaching 6th grade math, science and computer skills. As a substitute, I have worked with elementary students in reading and grammar, writing and social studies.
I have not only taught many elements of European history, but spent 20 years doing living history for the Renaissance, dealing with all elements of history and politics for western Europe in particular. It has been a passion for me.
All areas of Geography facinates me, and I try and pass on that passion for the physical world to others, from dealing with maps to understanding our human place upon the planet.
I hold a BA in History, with Praxis approval for Government, Sociology, Economics, Geography and humanities. While I do not formally teach anymore (I am retired), I still have a passion for these subjects.
American and English literature, which I have taught in private schools, is a window upon our very culture. Poetry and Prose speaks to the very soul of who we are, and I love opening up those doors to others.
In public speaking, I have been actively engaged in ministry and preaching for 18 months on a weekly basis, and with past experience in lectures and seminars since 2006. I have addressed numerous college classes on social issues and religion, as well as religious seminars in Berkeley, CA, on a variety of subjects, including the use of technology in ministry.
Reading is basic, beyond all subjects. To read well enables a student to understand anything and everything. I have worked with many students to help them find the passion in reading, both for knowledge and enjoyment.
As with Bible Studies, I hold a Masters in Divinity from Claremont School of Theology, and am soon (March 17th) to duly ordained as a Reverend. My experiences in religion formally, with biblical studies, began in earnest in 2007, but my preaching experience, which also applies to public speaking go back a year before when I took an active role as a Deacon in my old church to support and relieve our pastor when he needed to aid his wife, dying of cancer.
My studies at CST include many courses in the Bible, both new and old Testament, and detailed understanding of reaction of scripture. There has also been great exposure and cross-education in other faiths both within and without of the Christian faith structure.
Having worked as a teacher for 12 years, providing tactics in outlining and targeting material for study has proven essential in information retention. For the social sciences, developing a relationship with the present helps student place the past into perspective, making it easier to relate and remember. For Reading skills, teaching what to read within a paragraph, to isolate lead topics in a chapter or section for better retention. Repetition of material, and also having students rewrite information into their own words increases retention and clarity.
History, especially of the world, not only shows us who we are as people, but where we come from and why we are where we are. I adore all elements of history and the stories they bring, and love helping students see that as well.
To write well is to communicate with the world. I now spend most of my life either writing, or lecturing on what I write, both as a public speaker and as a church pastor with sermons. Good writing skills help others know you are educated and articulate.
