My name is Brandon, and I’m a recent graduate from Columbia University here. I am offering tutoring sessions in the areas of math, english, music theory, and piano lessons. I come from a very strong background in both numerical and sociological analysis. While at Columbia, I majored in sociology and took coursework tailored to my interests in urban development and economics.
I’ve had the opportunity to tutor students for going on 8 years now -- I began while in high school and have continued during my college experience. I’ve tutored in both English and Math for grades 2-6, and have also been on the founding team for a Junior Youth Empowerment board at Columbia, where we met with students age 12-16 for tutoring and general support. This was a fantastic experience for both the students and tutors alike, and I will be sure to bring my same enthusiasm and excitement as your tutor.
I know what it’s like to not understand a topic (or an entire subject) in school. Tutors, therefore, assist in evaluating the core of the student’s misunderstanding, and then attempt to break down the problem in a way that ensures lasting knowledge of that subject matter. As I am a pretty patient guy, I will work meticulously to first understand where the problem lies, and then work with my students to thoroughly comprehend the issue at hand.
Some of my favorite activities include playing piano - I have 14 years of classical training; playing basketball (true fact: I was the 2nd leading shot-blocker in the nation my senior year of high school!); exploring cities; taking pictures; and eating!
I look forward to working with awesome students that are ready to learn!
