I was an undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh in Rhetoric and Communications with a minor in English, then EdM from Harvard's School of Education. I have taught in K-12 and Adult Education for 20 years in the State of California. I have also tutored through the Home Instruction program for many districts in which I have worked. I have also contracted with the State of California in educational rehab programs for the military service personnel. I can tutor you in all K-12 subjects (Math only through Algebra 2) and can tutor most General Education courses for an AA. I am comfortable teaching ESL, special education, and adult students in addition to regular K-12. Call me and I would be happy to discuss your needs and work with you to build a strong future.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have been teaching Algebra 1 to adults for about 20 years. Just this week, I ran into one of my former students who needed to pass her teaching assistant credential. Not only did she pass, but she felt confident to then help others to pass with what she learned from me. I am confident I can help you too.

CBEST

I am a certified CA teacher who has passed my own CBEST test. I teach testing and test taking skills which can be applied to any testing situation. I would be able to assist with the CBEST. I have taught in K-12 and Adult Education for 20 years in the State of California.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have provided home/hospital instruction for Stockton Unified School District students that are too ill to attend regular school. I have had the opportunity to tutor K-6. In addition, during my off time, I have also substituted for Stockton Unified often for K-6 when they were using the track system. I am a regular High School English teacher but in addition to my single subject credential in English and Social Studies, I also have a Multiple Subject credential with CLAD.

English

I have been teaching English K-12 and ESL for 18 years now. In addition to basic and high school English, I have been helping students improve the reading and test taking skills.

Study Skills

Using Lincoln Unified Board approved course materials, Becoming a Master Student, I have been tutoring study skills for many years. In addition, as a teacher with Stockton Unified, I have taught courses which included: study skills, academic preparedness and passing the CASHEE. I feel that I am qualified to assist any family with study skills needs.

A great tutor like Maria is very hard to come by. — I have known Maria for several years. She tutors my son in English for the past several yrs, starting from 5th grade to now- he just started 8th grade this fall. She is an expert in the subject that she tutors and she is very patience and firm but kind. My son is a bit slow as English is not our native language, and Maria spent a lot of time and effort in setting the foundation for him. She is ver ...
