I am a teacher who believes that every child craves learning, but sometimes learning methods get in the way. Each child gains knowledge in his/her unique way. My goal, as a teacher is to find that way.
Too often schools and teachers discover a teaching formula that succeeds for a few students and mistakenly believe that it should work for every student “if the child really wants to learn.” Memorizing facts may work for some students, but I would rather teach children how to learn.
I know from life experience that there are many approaches to learning and teaching and I think a mutual experience between student and teacher offers the richest learning environment. If my student can teach me how he/she learns, then I can find avenues to success for them. My goal is to teach for long-term learning as well as meeting short-term goals set by schools. Both objectives can be achieved if the student’s talents are recognized and utilized.
