My name is Anthony E. I will be in the San Diego area at the end of September 2012. I'm interested in tutoring two subjects: Modern Standard Arabic and Bass Guitar.
I spent one enlistment in the United States Air Force as an Arabic language analyst. During that time, I completed a very immersive 64-week Arabic course at the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Language Center (DLI) in Monterey, CA, where I graduated in the top 10 percent of my class. My Arabic proficiency includes the areas of reading (2+), listening (2+), speaking (2), writing, translation, transcription, and transliteration. Because I am not the student's primary instructor, I will not have my own curriculum; however, as the tutor, I will utilize materials presented by the student and help make it more understandable. Being a linguist, I know how difficult learning a foreign language can be, especially one as difficult as Arabic; but I can draw from my own learning experiences to make the language make sense.
As a bass guitarist, I spent almost two years as the full-time bass player for Eddie James. After that, I joined the military and have played at churches everywhere I have been stationed. I am interested in tutoring beginners because I believe in teaching good technique right from the start. I must inform any prospective students, however, that I cannot read music. I play everything by ear. For sessions, I would ask the student to have his or her own instrument, instrument cable, and practice amp.
If you feel like I could be of help to you in either of these areas, please let me know. Thank you for your time.
Anthony E.
