My background: I have a bachelor degree in Science, concentration Biology and a PhD in Biology, and I have experience teaching at high school and college levels. I am currently teaching Biology courses at City College of San Francisco. I am from Chile, and therefore my native language is Spanish.

Why I am teaching Biology and Chemistry: I just enjoy teaching and helping others to understand all kinds of subjects and realize their full potential. I strongly believe that learning science helps to develop reasoning and problem-solving skills, which can be applied to any field.

Why I am teaching Spanish: I think that learning another language allows people to develop their communications skills and learning more about their own native language. I enjoy sharing my native language with those that are interested in learning it.

My methodology points out to guiding students through questions when introducing new concepts. I find out what the student's knowledge is, and I use that knowledge and his/her own experience to develop new ideas and clarify those that they may have wrong.

More than just providing information, which can be found anywhere these days, I consider my role to be a guide for the student to teach her/him how to learn to learn.

I will be glad if you contact me to tutor your son or daughter, I will be happy to be there for them.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Science

I have a Bachelor degree in Science, concentration Biology from the University of Chile and a PhD in Biology.

I have a very strong formation on basic sciences, together with a solid base on Mathematics and I have experience teaching at the high school and college levels.

Studying for a test does not only require to know the subjects but also requires to know how to apply that knowledge in a particular context and know how to interpret information.

With my experience, I can certainly help students to do better in their tests and I would enjoy doing so.

Biology

I have an undergraduate degree and a PhD in Biology. I have experience teaching a diversity of Biology subjects at different levels, from middle school to undergraduate.
I have been teaching Biology for more than 10 years and I have been effective at helping students understand key concepts.

Chemistry

I obtained my bachelor degree in Sciences concentration Biology from the University of Chile.

My formation at that school was very strong on basic sciences, including Chemistry. I had two semesters of Inorganic Chemistry, two of Organic Chemistry, one of Biochemistry and two of Physical Chemistry.

I enjoyed those classes, learned a lot of contents that I have used as a PhD student and as a post doc and I would like to have the opportunity to help others to realize the importance of this basic science.

Physiology

I have an undergraduate degree in Biology and a PhD in Biology, concentration Neurobiology.
I have taken several physiology classes at the undergraduate and graduate level. I have also taught Human Anatomy and Physiology and Human Biology classes at the college level.

Spanish

I am a native Spanish speaker and although I came to the US several years ago to get my PhD, I still enjoy communicating in Spanish and I enjoy teaching others my own language. I strongly believe that learning a new language helps to develop a new set of skills, which are helpful when communicating in any language. My tutoring could focus on speaking/listening or/and reading/writing, depending of the person's needs.

I look forward to have an opportunity to tutor you in Spanish!

Very patient and is very knowledgeable about the subject — Every time my son has a question she is able to answer the question knowing the answer. She is able to hold back the answer until the student understands, knows, and says the answer. She is also very patient. She is supportive and kind towards the student as she teaches the student new material or old. We recommend this tutor because she is one of the best that we have had. ...
