Normally it is quite difficult to learn Chinese
, but I believe anyone can learn with hard work and dedication, but this means you really have to have a yearning desire to learn and want to work hard at it. My goal is to support you in your Chinese learning goals.
I am an experienced tutor in Chinese language
from all aspects including grammar
, speaking and listening. I use a comprehensive approach in many ways. Firstly, I believe that all elements must be studied to really understand the language. By understanding the language and its roots, then you can really learn more quickly. If I taught you how to build a house, but didn't teach you how to read blueprints, then it would be difficult for you to learn on your own.
For example, one time I taught a 16 year-old American girl to learn Chinese. She could not distinguish the words "Ni" and "Nin", and why Chinese need two words to describe "You". I told her Ni is the normal salutation, and Nin's structure is consisted of two parts. It is bi-level structure. One is Ni (up), another one is heart (down). If you have someone in your heart, that means Nin. Normally you'd better call someone "Nin" who is older than you, especially the first time you meet her or him. I always call my parents Nin. Sometimes you call someone to be Nin because you really want to show you respect her or him.
Another example, she asked me how to use the word Dongxi (things). I told her Dongxi has many meanings which depends on the situation and the manner of speaking. It is very subtle. At the beginning of learning, you don't not use this word.
Then, with some basics on 'how to learn Chinese', then I teach you Chinese starting with speaking or whatever you think your needs are based on your learning objectives. I like to teach writing and reading as a complement to help in learning to speak. Chinese words are a pictograph so the learning process is much different than other languages. But like all languages it follows a system and if you learn the system, then you can learn faster and learn on your own as well.
Lastly, I believe what makes me a good teacher is patience and understanding but also knowing how to get my students to want to learn, and push themselves rather than me do the pushing. I am a recent immigrant, born in Hunan province and enjoy meeting with my students to share experiences and have fun while learning too.
