I have been tutoring all levels of Math for the past 10 years, from K-7 Arithmetic through Calculus. I believe that establishing a good foundation in Math is critical for a student’s future success and confidence – in high school, in college and beyond in their careers. And I believe every student has the potential to be successful with Math. I can help by explaining Math concepts in simple ways the student can understand and remember. And I do so in a positive, patient and encouraging manner.

I am a graduate of Stanford and Harvard. While I studied engineering and business, I have enjoyed Math since grade school when I was selected for experimental programs in Symbolic Logic and a new form of Algebra.

My Philosophy is that mathematics provides a critical foundation for other learning. Young people can grasp advanced concepts early on. Creative approaches to Mathematics education that work well for gifted students can help students of all levels and backgrounds succeed in Math. Each student is special and unique, and deserves a tailored approach.

I have had the privilege of working with students as young as 6, as well as students in middle school and high school. As a result of my tutoring my students have excelled in the following ways:

- Finishing 7th grade Pre-Algebra as young as 8.
- Completing Honors Precalculus as young as 11.
- Earning A+100% in Geometry at Stanford's highly rigorous Online High School.
- Earning the highest grades in class for Calculus 1 and 2.
- Taking Calculus 5 at age 14 at junior college while concurrently enrolled in high school.
- I am especially proud that some of the students mentioned above did not start out believing they were “good at Math.”

American History

American history is one of my favorite subjects. My family has deep roots in the history of our country going back to colonial times and extending out to homesteading in the Midwest and to the Gold Rush days of California. I grew up hearing stories from these different time periods. I love to share that perspective with my students as we establish ways to know and remember history. I also offer experience preparing students for the AP US History exam.

Calculus

Everyone can learn Calculus. It’s a great tool and a big confidence booster when you can master this subject. The concepts behind Calculus are actually simple and few in number. But they are often introduced in ways that seem complex and confusing. I will help explain the concepts and terms in simple English and with everyday examples.

Geometry

In a sense, Geometry is misnamed. On the surface, it appears to be focused on angles, lines, polygons, circles and arcs and how they relate. But at the heart of the subject is a Greek system of logic. Understanding this and how it works is the key to mastering Geometry.

Prealgebra

This is the foundation for advanced Math. Building confidence in the concepts introduced here and the ways to express them is critical.

Precalculus

Understanding Precalculus and Trig concepts need not be daunting. They can be explained in simple terms and there are ways to remember key concepts. This can be a fun subject when the student has confidence about the basics.

Trigonometry

SAT Math

I equip my students with strategy so they learn how to quickly tackle the different kinds of questions typically seen on SAT Math. World History

Besides studying World History on the side at university and then doing my own study and reading ever since, I have experienced first hand the "living history" that one can pick up by traveling, exploring and talking with and living with local people. In the course of my work, I have traveled to over 30 countries - in Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East, and have lived in four of them for cumulative nearly 10 years.
