Hello! My name is Coleen and I have been teaching in the classroom for 7 years and tutoring for 3 years. My credentials include a Master’s Degree in Students with Disabilities, a Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood Education, California Teaching Credentials (Educational Specialist, Mild to Moderate, and Multisubjects 1-6), New York State Certification (Students with Disabilities and Childhood Education), 7 years of direct classroom experience, 3 years of private tutoring, and 1 year of private home ABA teaching.
My years of experience have shown direct commitment to children and the education system, being a very adaptable and versatile teacher, I have enjoyed the opportunity to teach diverse groups of students, including those with ADD/ADHD, Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, emotional disturbances, learning disabilities, speech impairments, and physical challenges, as well as gifted and talented and general education students. These experiences have helped me grow into a well rounded, compassionate teacher who takes each student’s unique goals, needs, and interests into account when developing effective and fun lessons and activities.
My greatest capability as a teacher and tutor is developing differentiated lessons to facilitate learning for all students at their given level and sharing my knowledge with others. I develop multi-sensory lesson plans to meet the needs of auditory, tactile, visual, and kinesthetic learners. I also incorporate various high interest technology, learning centers, group work, and manipulatives to teach new material and keep the students engaged in learning while also meeting their individual goals. Furthermore, I make certain that each child receives individual praise and encouragement, ensuring that he/she remains motivated. In addition I am a huge believer in making learning fun and try to instil a love of learning in all my students' lives.
