Your academic coach. My approach with students is to gently encourage and motivate them, while helping them focus and stay on task. I assist them with prioritizing their studies and expect them to be active participants in the learning process. I hold students accountable for their performance and expect them to do the work they commit to, rather than accepting excuses. I believe students can accomplish anything they put their minds to, and I understand that sometimes they require guidance in the right direction. I frown upon wasting time. Though I am not a strict disciplinarian, I do expect students to be well behaved and committed to their own success. But, I also have a sense of humor and believe that it's vital to effective learning that the process be enjoyable and fun.
I have been working with young people since I was a teenager, and I love students. For over 20 years I worked as a counselor and director at one of California's premier summer camps, teaching both children and adults. I have taught as a substitute teacher in both public and private schools, covering a wide range of course material, as well as having coached high school students in SAT test preparation. For three years I served as a school administrator in New Mexico at a boarding school for students with learning disabilities such as attention-deficit disorder and dyslexia.
