Hi, chemistry students,
This (2013) will be my second year as a tutor on wyzant.com. I have a lot of experience teaching chemistry including high school level chemistry. I also know that my students like me and think I am helpful and funny, a thing you might experience yourself.
I am a full time master student at Cal. State Long Beach studying chemistry. I am graduating 2013 summer or fall. As a part of the college’s program I was offered a position as teaching associate. Since spring 2011, I have taught 6 chemistry classes including 3 Chem101 classes which are practically high school level chemistry courses. I was given the additional responsibility of teaching several general chemistry and analytical chemistry laboratories and seminars.
My experience as an undergraduate college level chemistry instructor goes back to 2008, back in my home country. There, I taught two courses of pharmaceutical chemistry laboratories in which I have an MS degree. My undergraduate degree and my first master's degrees are in pharmacy; at home, it is unlike the United States where you need a PharmD. degree to become a pharmacist. Many other countries require only a BS in pharmacy, which includes a lot of emphasis on chemistry. I personally took five chemistry related courses during my undergraduate studies and three more during my first graduate studies; this is not mentioning five years of chemistry classes in middle and high school
Now, I am a candidate for an MS in Chemistry from Cal. State-Long Beach and have taken even more chemistry courses. I can confidently say that I have covered the chemistry courses, both undergraduate and advanced, that are quite sufficient to make me a competent tutor in introductory chemistry, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and perhaps other disciplines of chemistry. Having a BS in pharmacy makes me a competent pharmacology tutor, also.
Being a non-Muslim Arab, I can help you in learning Arabic and tutoring you in Arabic if you are taking it in college. I am an excellent translator with high proficiency in English and almost no accent. In general, I don’t expect any cultural barrier. I am completely Americanized.
Feel free to contact me via WyzAnt. I can arrange a public place for meeting with you, like a nearby library. I am also ready for in-home sessions within Long Beach city limits.
