Math was always my favorite subject, and I excelled through school. I received an A in AP Calculus during my junior year in high school and then took Calculus II at the University of Colorado (Colorado Springs) during my senior year. Algebra 1 lays the foundation for nearly everything else in math, making it a vital subject for students to master. Topics include linear equations, functions, graphing, linear inequalities, exponents, exponential functions, polynomials, factoring, quadratic equation, radical expressions, rational expressions, and probability.
Algebra 2 is another important subject for students to master and add to their skill set. I love sharing my passion for Algebra 2, including topics like linear systems, matrices, quadratic equations, polynomials, polynomial functions, exponents, logarithms, conic sections, sequences/series, probability, statistics, and basic trigonometric functions.
I played Little League throughout my youth and continued to play on the high school team. As an adult, I coached for a youth league in Pacoima, coaching a group of 7-8 year old boys and girls at the "co-pitch" level, the level immediately following tee-ball. I am an avid follower of MLB, and I am well-versed in batting, hitting, fielding, base-running, and (to a lesser degree) pitching techniques developed over a lifetime of study and appreciation of the game. Most importantly, I believe baseball (and softball) are incredibly fun!
I have been an avid basketball player my entire life, playing in recreational leagues and pick-up games since I was young. I am an expert on the rules of the game and have learned through a lifetime of watching basketball at all levels. Through experience, I have developed the ability to recognize areas of weakness in a player's game and introduce tips, tricks, and strategies for improvement. Much of the foundation for my approach comes from the Pete Maravich shooting techniques and the Magic Johnson passing drills.
I have worked for over 16 years in a wide-range of positions, from business strategy, marketing, sales development, and operations for a number of Fortune 500 companies, primarily in the Entertainment industry. I have negotiated multi-million dollar agreements, executed the first distribution deal for Disney Channel's VOD service, and managed a team responsible for online ad sales development for 75+ FOX owned and affiliated local stations. I have also helped develop business plans and investor presentations for startup companies looking to raise investor funds. I hold my BA in Economics from Cal State University, Northridge.
I received my BA in Economics from Cal State University, Northridge in 2005. I also received a Certificate of Excellence in the Study of Economics for maintaining a GPA over 3.5 in Economics courses. My specialty is in pricing, consumer choice theory, and microeconomics, though I am well-versed in macroeconomics and Keynesian economic theory, as well.
During high school, I tutored several students at a neighboring elementary school in basic math skills. My major accomplishment during that time was working with a group of three siblings of different ages and having important breakthroughs with each at their respective levels. I believe for one to understand math, it must be easy for them to see the real world application. It is through these moments of discovery that math transforms from scary to fun.
I am primarily a Mac user in my personal life, and have experience with nearly every OS to come out from Classic to the current OS X releases. I run a Mac network at home, with several computers, printers and iOS devices all connected via WiFi. I am adept at most Mac software, including the Mac versions of popular PC applications like the Microsoft Office suite. I've also opened up several of my machines and performed basic hardware upgrades like increasing the memory, changing out hard drives, and various troubleshooting.
While my degree is in Economics, most of my professional career has been spent in Marketing and Business Development. For over 15 years, I have worked as a Marketing Director/Manager in entertainment and digital media distribution for companies like Disney/ABC, ESPN, and NewsCorp. At NewsCorp Digital Media, I led a team responsible for developing online marketing strategies for over 75 FOX TV Station websites across the country. I have also worked with small startup companies using primarily new media and social media marketing tools to gain exposure.
I began my career as an "Excel jockey." At Disney/ABC, I developed a sales tracking system in Excel that allowed our sales team to target sales opportunities gleaned from payment reports received from our Accounts Receivable department. I am proficient at formula creation, modeling, macro-building, charts, auditing, automation and nearly every function contained in this powerful program.
I have used Microsoft Outlook throughout my career at various posts: as an assistant at NBC/Universal, during my 8-year stint at Disney/ABC, and also while working at NewsCorp. In my personal life, I use other calendar applications, but I consider myself an expert on all Microsoft applications, including Microsoft Outlook.
A major focus of my career in marketing and business development has been the creation of enticing sales presentations. The primary tool I have used throughout my career is Powerpoint. I have experience with nearly every aspect of this program and the various versions available for both Mac and PC. I view Powerpoint as the "ultimate application" that all other Microsoft products are designed to funnel into and support.
I have used Microsoft Word as my word processor of choice for my entire career. I have experience with all advanced functionalities, including Mail Merge, Track Changes, and AutoFormat features, and I am adept at recognizing opportunities to streamline formats and layouts for better message clarity.
As a classically trained actor and an accomplished business development executive, I have a unique perspective on public speaking. I have delivered well-rehearsed presentations in high-stakes corporate settings, but am also quite skilled at improvising and adjusting to a lighter audience, when necessary. Whether it requires delivering a message in a small meeting or presenting to thousands at a convention, I have learned through experience how to connect with audiences.
I have been performing, writing, and directing live theater for as long as I can remember in productions ranging from dinner theater, community theater, musicals, and even collegiately at the University of Colorado, Boulder. I graduated from the Conservatory at Second City Hollywood in 2010, and I completed the long-form improvisation program the following year. A 23-year member of SAG-AFTRA, I perform regularly around town with a number of improv groups.
