As a communications major at James Madison University in Virginia, I studied screenwriting, creative writing, and journalism. Additionally I have a minor in vocal music, and have spent the last 20 years both teaching/tutoring, writing screenplays and traveling the world performing in musical theatre productions. Writing has always been my strong suit as I have received various awards and honors throughout my school years for essays submitted, and grade point averages achieved.
In addition to the above, I have much experience as a comic actor having both studied and performed with the renowned Second City Improv in NYC. I believe my sense of humor has been beneficial in helping my students to write creatively. Furthermore, I have have found that my improvisational comedy experience helps students to learn to enjoy each tutoring session which translates to a new-found enjoyment of their own writing process.
I believe the essence of good writing is the ability to insert one's self into his work. While my method of course includes teaching grammar, it also includes encouraging students to express themselves with their unique strengths. Inspiring them to do so through a spontaneous discussion of ideas before delving into the actual writing, has been fun for my students. I consider it a joy and privilege to help in the discovery of one's writing skills and look forward to helping you or your child to unleash talents and to grow as writers and artists.
