For over 13 years now, I have taught photoshop and is currently my tool of choice in all my design projects coupled with illustrator and lightroom. I also do a lot of photography work and photoshop comes in very handily. I have taught beginning Photoshop and advanced photoshop. Other programs that I use in my design work include Lightroom, InDesign, Illustrator. Currently I am using CS5. But if you have an older version you can still do a lot of amazing things with it especially if you are a beginner. Since I do a lot of graphic intensive work I also built my own computer and configured it so it can handle a tough load. I am running windows 7 64-bit, 12 GB of RAM, 1 GB dedicated graphics card. But I also am comfortable working with a Mac. It is important that you have your own computer or laptop dedicated to your graphics work as photoshop is very RAM intensive. I suggest the MINIMUM requirement for your computer to begin with should be : Pentium IV, 2 GB of RAM, 150 GB of HDD.
My current certifications include Photoshop User Professional Certification and Computer Graphics Certification. I am a current member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals.
In learning photoshop it is important that you have the drive and the patience as it will require your eye for design and technical know how of the software. In my experience the only way you can truly learn and master photoshop is to really spend time using it in your projects. That is why my teaching method is all project-based.
