I graduated from Pitzer College with a B.A. in chemistry. For my last two years in college, I tutored extensively in introductory and organic chemistry. I quickly became the most popular tutor because of my patience, dedication, and instructional ability. My emphasis was and still is on understanding the fundamental concepts as problem solving naturally follows. Teaching and drilling the “how” of problem solving mechanics are important, but really understanding the “why” that those problems are based on generates the greatest returns, especially for students interested in continuing in the natural sciences.
Furthermore, early tutoring sessions helped many of my students develop self-confidence in the face of seemingly overwhelming course requirements which helped in their overall performance. While not all of them got A’s, those that regularly attended tutoring did see improvements in their grades.
I believe that mathematics should not get in the way of learning the natural sciences, so I am capable of tutoring in that as well. My passion is in chemistry but the quantitative nature of the natural sciences means that I am fluent in algebra through calculus.
By nature of my coursework and extracurricular research, I also have extensive experience in lab work and spent a fair amount of my tutoring time assisting with lab coursework.
I look forward to tutoring for you!
